How To Write an Elevator Speech in 5 Easy Steps

Elevator speech is actually a marketing idea in which a person’s ability to make an effective sales talk is put to test. The concept of elevator speech is derived from the span of time in which an elevator travels, which is approximately half minute to two minutes. Now with this very short time, a good sales person is expected to deliver a persuasive talk to promote a product, service or entity to prospective customers.

What a short time it is, you may say. And yet it is possible to persuade people in two minutes or less, if you are versatile in delivering such talks and if you have the selling ability that people in the business world are expected to have.

Know the classification of your listeners

Before composing your speech, determine first what kind of audience you are going to deliver it to. There various types of costumers and they are classified into groups A, B, C, D and E. Know that those from the A, B and C groups belong to the upper echelon of patrons, which means they are from the very rich, rich and middle class levels of society.

On the other hand, the D and E groups are composed of low income consumers. Make sure you adapt your language and pitch of your exposition accordingly to suit your audience.

Identify the product you are to promote

Analyze the appeal and usability of the product or entity you are going to sell to your audience. Examine too, if the subject of your sale is appropriate to the audience. Know the features of the products and services you are marketing and the benefits it will give your audience. Thorough knowledge of the subject of your sale is imperative because you expect people to ask questions later on.

Analyze the needs and problems of your audience

Point out the advantages of the product or service you are selling and how it can assist in providing the customers’ necessities. Ask yourself if you are able to come up with solutions to the prospects’ concerns with the item or amenity you are offering.

Point out your unique traits as a salesperson from others in the field. Look at your best assets and try to work on enhancing them more. On the other hand look at your weak points too and work at how to improve or correct them.

Mesmerize the crowd with your eloquence
